The Northwest Environmental Conference (NWEC) established a Greening Committee in 2002 to increase this event's role as a leader in greening initiatives.

Electronic Distribution of Workshop Presentations

To achieve our goal and fully eliminate paper handouts presentations are accessible for download after the Conference at www.nwec.org.

Here are some of the things the NWEC has done to green the Conference:

•    Decreased printed materials and increased electronic communications to publicize the conference and correspond with attendees
•    Printed conference materials on recycled paper with soy-based inks
•    Used reusable dishware, cutlery and linens for all food and beverage service
•    Eliminated single use water bottles
•    Minimized food waste by ordering food quantities close to actual consumption
•    Provided 100% certified organic/shade grown coffee at breaks
•    Improved conference-related recycling and reuse programs
•    Encouraged exhibitors to green their booths
•    Supported the sustainability program at the Red Lion Hotel
•    Introduced online conference evaluation surveys, eliminating paper surveys
•    Encouraged attendees to take alternative transportation or bike to the conference
•    Collected donations to purchase carbon offsets from sponsor and attendee contributions
